Question
I posed this question on my Facebook page: If you had people coming over to your house and you only had time to clean one room, which room would you clean?
So far only one person had the same answer as me which is THE BATHROOM.
When it comes to me visiting a persons house I judge a lot on the cleanliness of the home but how clean the bathroom is. It's just a given that when you're having guests over the one room they're definitely going to need to go into is the bathroom. And they're going to go in there by themselves and spend enough time in there to look at the toilet, sink and floor for any sort of grossness that might be there if it wasn't cleaned. My feelings on a clean bathroom aren't much different from when you go to a restaurant and use their bathrooms. If the restaurants bathrooms are gross, you can probably guess that the rest of the place is going to be pretty scuzzy too. Right?
This isn't to say that every moment of every day my bathrooms are spotless. Stop by my house unexpectedly and you will probably find a toilet unflushed or little undies thrown about the room. But if I know you're coming, my first thing is going to be to go into the bathroom, lift up the lid of the toilet seat and make sure there isn't shit or pee all over the place. I make sure there aren't hairs looming about or toothpaste mucking up the sink. I will make sure there is soap to wash your hands and a clean towel to dry your hands since I know there are some people who like to wash their hands after they pee!
This idea of a clean bathroom though only applies to people I don't know very well or don't see very often. I could go into August's bathroom at her house and have there be stuff all over the vanity, toothpaste in the sink or a shower that hasn't been scrubbed and it wouldn't phase me in the least.
But if I'm coming over and I've never been to your house or don't come over often, you better make sure you have a gleaming toilet for me to sit on.
